Senior Cats for Senior Laps
Senior Cats for Senior Laps is a program focusing on the senior cats in our rescue. We work to match these wonderful senior cats with caring and loving senior foster homes to benefit both cat and person.
Cats are wonderful companions for people of all ages but can be especially beneficial to seniors. Many studies have been done showing that cat companionship can help:
Reduce stress by lowering cortisol levels and increasing serotonin levels
Reduce resting heart rate, blood pressure, and cholesterol values
Decrease risk for heart attack and stroke
Reduce depression and diminish loneliness
Increase social activity and mental health
Boost nervous and immune systems, resulting in faster recovery from
illness, injury, and grief
Senior cats are often overlooked in rescue due to their advanced age and/or health issues but are often the most appreciative to be in a loving home. A senior cat has already gone through their rambunctious kitten phase, and though many are still playful, others want nothing more than a warm lap and constant companion. The Senior Laps program provides these deserving senior cats with the quieter foster home they desire.

their golden years.

We’d like our senior fosters to please consider these questions before applying and understand that we'll be going over these questions before placing a cat in a senior home.

Your new pet must be well matched to your abilities and your environment.

Your new pet may require vet visits or a visit to the shelter. Do you have transportation?

Do you have the financial resources for the basic daily care your new family member will need?

As we age, arthritis can make opening cans and grooming difficult.

As we age, our eyesight may decline and our balance may become less stable.

All of our cats must be kept strictly indoor cats, and that requires litter boxes that need regular cleaning, which means being able to bend /stoop over and scoop litter.

Your senior cat may need medication, which should be clearly marked and stored in a separate location from your own.
